Traveller’s diarrhoea is typically caused by ingesting food or water contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or parasites commonly found in regions with inadequate sanitation practices.
Rifaximin is an antibiotic medication used to treat traveller’s diarrhoea caused by certain types of bacteria. It works by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria in the intestines, thereby reducing symptoms of diarrhoea.
Common side effects of rifaximin may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, or headache. These side effects are usually mild and temporary.
Loperamide is a medication used to relieve symptoms of diarrhoea by slowing down the movement of the intestines and reducing bowel frequency.
Loperamide can be taken as needed to relieve symptoms of diarrhoea. It's essential to follow the dosage instructions provided by our prescribing team.
Side effects of loperamide are uncommon but may include constipation, abdominal cramps, bloating, dizziness, or drowsiness. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, stop taking loperamide and consult your doctor.
Dioralyte is an oral rehydration solution containing electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and glucose, which are lost during episodes of diarrhoea and vomiting. It helps to replace fluids and electrolytes lost due to diarrhoea and dehydration.
Dioralyte should be taken as soon as diarrhoea begins to prevent dehydration. It's essential to mix the sachet with the recommended amount of water and drink it slowly over a period of time.
